The drummer in my band, turned me onto British Sea Power recently. Very cool band. Maybe a bit to much Echo and the Bunnymen, but I don’t consider that a bad thing.

Alanna is now in Paris for a week. After a crazy storm on her first day, she can now get down to some serious museums and cafes.

This is a rough mix of a song for Alanna.

Where are you tonight?

I spent the weekend writing a little song for alanna while she is in France. I don’t even know if she can hear it. I spent some time during the week getting parts together and then did most of the recording today.

I found the recording a little difficult, because although I went to the studio to get a XLR cable to go from the mic to the pre-amp, I fotgot to bring a mic stand home from the studio. Which means I had to prop up the mic between the couch coushions. High tech baby all the way.

Besides the basic and obvious problems involved with trying to record yourself, I of course had the noise and traffic from the Haight St. Faire to content with. These are just basic mixes that I wanted to get up. I hope Alanna will be able to hear them. I might have to make a care package with a CD for her.

My band finally has some studio space over at Secret Studios in the city and we had our first loud practice today. Up until now we have done all our writing on acoustics so playing these songs at the decibels they were meant for is a bit weird.

I had to get us a PA on short notice and even though all else seems to have changed in the world of music, finding a PA where you can hear the vocals is still almost impossible unless you spend insane amounts of money.
