OLD 97s

We went to an OLD 97s show the other weekend. Super fun. Alanna could not resist getting a new T-shirt.

One Arm Quebec

Since I am unable to play guitar and do most music stuff since my motorcycle accident, I have decided that I will make an electronica record under the name “One Arm Quebec”. Quebec is the name they gave me at the emergency room after the accident. When you come in they give you an alphabetical name until they can get any actual info from you.

I have Reason 2.0, now I just need a Reason book. That should keep me busy doing music until my arm heals.

How does that feel?

When you tell the person that put you in a cast that it is uncomfortable, and they look at you like you insulted them you start to wonder about the medical profession.

I went in to the doctors in the hope of getting a more comfortable cast. I love what Alanna has done to my cast, but it is still fairly uncomfortable and its kinda shabily put together. With gauze instead of some sort of fabric its kinda coming apart.

My doctor informed me that I actually should be in a MORE restrictive cast and that she cannot risk putting another one on because she has this one just where she wants it. So she extended my cast 3/4 the way up my arm.

Now my arm is permanently in the arm wrestling position.

On a good note I did get a Wacom tablet at work so at least I can use my left hand, which I write with. Its pretty rockin.

Alanna has been super good to me, making me food and keeping me from being a dork and trying to do things that I should not do with my arm. She is the best and when I get better I will make her nice dinners and buy her small ponies and shiney trinkets.

Stir Crazy

Since my accident last weekend I have been going slowly more and more stir crazy. The amount of effort it takes in order to even go to the bathroom makes larger tasks seem totally out of reach.

I’m caught between giving up and taking a nap or just doing it and dealing with the frustration that it will be slow going and I will not see any results for a long time. As you can see, I am not good at sitting around relaxing and getting better. Which is exactly what I should be doing now.

Getting Dressed

I came to work today but not until I spent a whole lot of time trying to get dressed with one hand. That sucked. My arm decided that it would be a good time to start hurting as well. It took me 20 minutes to put one sock on. I don’t even want to know how long its going to take me to shave. Guess I will cross that bridge when I get there.

I never even considered how I would use soap or shampoo with one hand. Just think about it for a second.

Crash go boom

This time someone finally did the full job on me. Alanna and I were headed to the Aquarium to see some fish when some older lady decided to make a left hand turn from the center lane. I skidded, brought the bike down and slammed right into her car. I think I hit her front wheel with my head but I am not sure. I rolled around on ground in a lot of pain for a little bit and then the masses started to arrive. Nurses, police, fire fighters, witnesses. The only thing we were missing was someone selling ballons and another person scalping tickets. It was pretty crazy. I was very lucky that all I got was a broken arm. The folks over at SF General were super nice.

I sold my unused PA system just the day before. Once again the curse of the large bills takes over.

This whole, mouse with your left hand and type one handed stuff is for the birds. Guess I have to get used to it for a little bit.
