between here and there is better than either here or there

Archive for July, 2003

There is nothing worse than hearing someone at the other end of the phone who is in pain. This is compounded if that person is close to you. It’s like dropping a bomb on your hate meter. You start to imagine various ways in which you will avenge your loved ones pain for these unseen grievances. Your brain then spirals into Wil E. Coyote like fantasies of pain and retribution involving anvils, home made nuclear weapons and large boulder attached to industrial Acme rubber bands.

It’s hard to get your brain out of this hate espeacially when all you really have to go off of is the pain you hear in someones voice. What your brain has to adjust to is that hate is a time waster. Your brain revolves through these scenarios when what it should do is forget all about the person. When you give that person your time and your brain power you give them more power over you, long after they have stopped being the retard that they are.

You should avoid that person and make sure that other people that you meet can learn from your knowledge of what an asswipe they are.

hump day

Somedays the meter maids wait until you have that last nerve to give before you turn into a total wreck and then they decide to give you your 3 ticket of the week. Today is one of those days.

You start to question the sense of building things that don’t mean anything. People who care so much about building little pieces of nothing, that they will sacrifice you on the altar of their unbending gant chart. Vapor deadlines come and go for products that may never see the light of day and you wish to be out in the day and not merely caught up in the minutes.

Well I just finished getting some CD stuff off my plate and now I only have 3 other jobs to worry about.

Alanna and I had a nice little beer at Magnolias last night (mmm Calimari, Alanna is very nice to not gross out about the fish thing). Now it’s Wednesday and we are back in full geek mode.

Computers do not like me today

I have been fighting with software versions and OS probems, and Flash MX weirdness all day. CALGON TAKE ME AWAY!!!

Found out that our G3 at work is running 9.0.1, damn that is like from the stone age or something. Even my friend Dave has a sporty new G4 with OS X.

On a seperate note I have been looking at getting a G4 for home and making the switch to the MAC side of the force. I think I have had enough of windows. Maybe I’m just a masochist, and I need a different kinda of beating.

NY Times on the Web

The Following was an email that I sent to Nytimes.com. Like most online sites they will ignore the email or get back to me right away with a form email about how they value customer input while the email that I sent simply evaporates into the ether that is customer service.

Just a note about your site.

You have without a doubt the worst site login architecture I have ever seen….
Over the time that I have been coming to you site I have had to change my account name and change my password over a dozen times each.

1. Why do you find the need to make people CHANGE their password if they have forgotten their password? (Maybe they just cleared their browser cache of cookies!)

2. Even Amazon, which holds peoples credit card info, does not make the person change their password everytime they forget their password or clear their cookies from their browser.

3. The content that I would like to see is, according to your own site, FREE!!!!!! Why would you have such a strict policy about passwords?

4. Almost every person that I have sent a link to a story on your site has come back and said they do not have an account on your site nor after a quick review of your account procedures would they want one.

5. If you want people to visit your site and feel good about your site. Make it easy for them to BE on your site!

I will not be back to you site.
I will not link to stories on your site.
I will not even wish your site on my worst enemy.

Thanks

Need to get my mind back today. Put on a little “Jets to Brazil” and try to figure out what the hell I am doing. I have piles of paper on my desk that I forgot about. I wonder what is in them? eeiwwww, maybe I shouldn’t go there.

I have to send in my jury notice. I need to get a postponment. I cannot have jury duty any time soon. On the other hand it would be a good mind numbing way to spend a couple of days.

Back at work already. It seems like I was just here.

HARARE (Reuters) – Two Zimbabwean mortuary workers have been arrested on charges they rented out corpses to motorists to enable them to take advantage of special fuel preferences given to hearses.
(They have 3 lines at that gas station: Full Service, Self Service, Dead Service)

My boy, the universe itself will disappear one day. We’ve got to try to enjoy ourselves in the meantime. Zeldman
