I hate Emagic

I spent a few hours this weekend fighting with my Emagic Logic 6 software.

First of all the software should be called Illogic. Their whole licensing scheme for that program treats you like a theif even after shelling out hundreds of dollars to buy it. This weekends trials were based on their neat little trick of including all these other plugins with the software that you bought and then turning them off after a trial period. The fucked up thing is that the plugin costs more than I paid for the program itself.

A nice little capper to all of this is that Logic 6 is sold with a couple of other programs in what is called a “Big Box”. What they don’t tell you is that 2 of the 3 other programs that come with Logic will not work with Logic 6 if you install it on Os X. This little bit of info they do not tell you on the front cover where they so loudly proclaim that it is built for Os X, or as you install it.

So now here I am I have moved all of my samples over to my hard drive, the sampler (EXS24 )that I thought came with Logic 6 does not work, the plugin sampler that came as an extra in my “Big Box” (EXSP24) does not work with Logic 6 and now I have to shell out $299 just to get my functionality back.

!@##$(*$&%$&^#$&# software bastards

It was a Swell show

swell.jpgWent to see Swell last night at the Make-Out Room. It was a little crowded but a fun show. It was a CD release for the middle band The Red Thread. Alanna and I argued over whether the singer sounded like Mark Eitzel or Jeff Tweedy but both agreed that they were good. Their CD needs some investigating.

Swell was a bit loud for the small place but it was fun to see them after so many years of listening to their records. Alanna needed a chair in the crowded place and happened to be given a spare seat at a table by 3 nice brothers, one of which was the guitar player for swell, who were fun to talk to.

The new Swell record is available on Beggars.

Valentines Weekend

Yes folks, that’s right I am the proud owner of a 20GB iPod. I got this wonderful gift from my girlfriend and I think this makes my conversion to to MAC complete.
(Your training is complete young Jedi, now you can have and iPod)

I got her a nice Silvertone Ukulele from the 50’s-60’s. We had a nice Valentines dinner and today Alanna went to go hang paintings for her show later this week.

Hamburgers and Jesus

If you have ever been to In & Out Burger you may have seen the little bible snippets on the food products such as the “John 3:16″ under the soda cups. I for one do not have a problem with this, but it just seemed a little weird. They pay the best wages in the fast food industry, they have the best hamburgers ever and I think they are smart business people who know that if they brought the company public it would ruin it. Next thing they would have plastic toy movie happy meals and low wages and crappy food like the rest of them. Long live IN and OUT.

By the way “John 3:16″ says:
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only
begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him shall
not perish, but have eternal life.

I got the bible verse from John316racing.com
Can you say “Jesus Built my HotRod”

Nada Surf Show

The Nada Surf show was everything I was hoping for. After a slight pain in the ass taking the bus downtown on the same night as the Chinese new year celebration we got the Great American and we had two nice balcony seats waiting for us. (Due to Alanna’s gimpy leg. It pays to call ahead. ) We had a great view of the stage and could hear everything. We had a nice waitress who brought us food and beer and we were generally in a good mood for the rest of the night.

On the Speakers didn’t disappoint. While I think that need to take their time with their set, play less songs and have a little bit more fun. I was sad to hear that the ex-Creeper Lagoon frontman had moved/started the band to/in southern california. Hey, I know it’s cold in the bay area, but it gets you out of all the music industry bullshit in SoCal. The Long Winters were even better than the last time we saw them. At one point taking an audience member to task for booing and telling him to “Get his sideways baseball cap wearing ass back to indie rock school.” While they might not be as crushingly lonely and sad as Nada Surf they are worth every minute and sometimes a few that you don’t have.

Nada Surf was once again just a breath of freash air. Playing songs from all albums and several new ones that gave me faith that the new album will be on par with the rest. A fun time was had by all. By the way how does that bass player keep those cigarettes in his mouth while he is playing? He may be a little to cool for school.
