New Goodies for the studio

I treated myself to some new stuff for my home studio. I have an old Echo Audio Gina PCI card that was making some popping and clicking so I got a Presonus Firebox which so far is kinda having some latency issues that are disappointing. I also replaced my old keyboard controller with an M-Audio Axiom 25 which I am pretty happy with.

I now have a new list of stuff that I need to get rid of including: an old Alesis D4, my old Kaysound keyboard, my USB midiman port (don’t need it since the M-Audio plugs right into the USB port) and then their is my Echo Audio Gina card and break out box, which I may not get rid of just yet since the FireBox is slightly strange to me.

FireBox – Can this really be the way this works? Am I just sensitive to the latency around this piece of equipment? Obviously my old PCI would be faster at this. But I definately didn’t think there would be that much difference. I have not felft comfortable with one track that I have recorded using this box. I followed all their instructions for latency free operation and I am still unsatisfied.

Easter

Alanna and I spent a nice easter up in Point Reyes climbing on rocks and lifting pints with the locals. We even spent a little time in the hot tub and well as playing Yahtzee. I now know the meaning of the phrase “Yahtzee beeatch”.

Goodbye Silver Face Twin

I finally sold my 70’s silver face twin the other day. I had tried to put it on Craigslist and I showed it to one guy, but then I realized that it needed tubes and I didn’t want to try and sell it without knowing that it was not going to fuckup for someone else.

I got some nice power tubes through www.thetubestore.com and it was super cool. They have a nice site where they tell you all about the kind of tubes they are and what kind of sounds they are good for. I remember in the old days you had to hope and pray that you could find the tubes in old school repair places. Now you can pop on the web and find some Electro-Harmonix or Mullard or Sovteks or Svetlans like you were shopping for anything else.

I love the web.

After putting my new tubes in I found a nice guy who cam all the way down from Santa Rosa and he was nice and appreciated an old amp with some miles on it.

So that leaves me with the Marshall combo and the Mesa Mark IV. I think I’ll survive.

Rogue Wave @ Bimbos

I like Rogue Wave, I mean I really like them. But this show was not all that good. I think that their record is one of the best to come out in years but unfortunately they do not have enought material to hold a show together as a headliner. At least right now. I saw them with Nada Surf when they opened up and they had a great set of 30-35 minutes.

Saying all that, I still can’t wait to go and see them again.
