Brand New
We went over to Kaiser Oakland to unwrap my brand new arm today. It was uuuuuugly. It was so nice to wash my arm and get all the dead skin off. So now I am in a brace for about 5 weeks and then I will come back and maybe start physical therapy or maybe get some other stuff done to my arm.
I’m FREEE!!!!!!!!!!
If you want to see a picture of my scars you can check out Alanna’s post.
No commentsMore Hosting
My site seems to be up and running fine now, but there is a lot of chatter all over the net about my service provider, Dreamhost, which had a planned power outage last night and seems to be having a tough time getting everything back on track today.
I had some problems earlier with them, but I am going to ride this out a little bit and see what they are like over a stretch of ground.

Well so far my new hosting arrangement has been kind of a mixed bag. I’m really not sure that I will stay. I like the features that Dreamhost gives like multiple domains and sub domains along with all the storage and throughput, but the Control panel is a little wonky and the server that I am on seems to be kinda slow.
It was super easy to get my Movable Type stuff moved over to Wordpress for the new site here but I am having to many connection and setup problems to look the other way.
We’ll see.
No commentsPlease Pardon my Appearance
I am in the middle of changing hosting providers and moving my whole site from Movable Type to Wordpress 2.0
Things are going to be a little hairy for about a week or so.
Thanks
No commentsSteve Ballmer is a Liar
The best defense is a good offense the phrase goes. This is definately something that Steve Ballmer knows. So while he is talking over and over about Linux infringing on Microsofts IP you can almost here him back at headquarters ordering his minions to steal every last bit of IP out of linux to make Vista worth a shit. At least to make the next release of Vista worth a shit.
Just a note Steve, your backing of SCO how did that go? Not very well, did it? IBM has some deep pockets. Probable deeper than yours. You think they are going to roll over now? What do you think is going to happen when you start to gear up to go after Red Hat and other Linux people with bullshit IP threats? The whole IT industry will be lining up to take a swing at you like the little girl in the movie “Airplane”. You think Google will miss the opportunity to take some easy shots at you? Apple? Sun? Oracle?
Everybody hates you guys already. So long and thanks for all the FUD. Good luck with all that.

Like last year we have decided that it sucks to try and eat out on the town on a night like tonight. Usually you end up eating at some crappy place because reservations are so hard to get, and even if you do end up at a nice place everything is rushed. Our idea is to have a night out either the weekend before VDay or the weekend after.
So with that in mind we are all set for a nice night at home for Valentines Day and we have reservations this weekend at Chez Spencer our swanky night out. I guess us being super awesome cooks doesn’t hurt either. (I am kinda like the Jacques to her Julia)

I have become pretty adept at getting around since getting my most recent cast. I can do lots of things. OK, maybe I can’t eat or actually hold things but who’s counting.
This cast actually seems pretty bearable compared to the last 2. Not that much itching, and I’ve been keeping it relatively clean. Not that I’m not counting the fracin days til I get it off, but you know they did a good job.
So now I wait around to get my cast off at the end of the month. No Fun.

I am obviously not doing much music since getting my arm operated on a few weeks back. Jhina and I are finishing up the mixes for the Tiny Black Dots record titled “Coming apart slowly” so hopefully we will have all the mixes and artwork done over the next couple of weeks.
We decided to try and include an old acoustic song on the record if we have time. Sort of a hidden track thing. We’ll see if we can leave it alone enough to have it stay as an acoustic track.

Alanna gave me an early Valentines day present which was a hand drawn book of our trip to the northwest back in 2001. She is the best. I hope we can post pictures so the world can enjoy it.
You can see the pics on Alanna’s Flickr account

I got my temporary cast off this week and I was hoping that they would just put me in a splint and send me on my way, but that was not to be.
As soon as he cut off the old cast I could see that I was going right into a hard cast. The first thing I noticed was that I have a 6 inch scar down my arm where there opened me up and it still had some healing to do.
When they put my arm under the fluoroscope I was amazed at the size of the hardware in my arm. I was expecting to see small pieces of metal maybe. What I saw was scary. I have huge plates and screws in my forearm. I mean, I’m glad they did it and all but damn, it looks like they took the hardware from the miscellaneous drawer of my dads ancient metal toolbox.
They did give me a cool black cast though. So now I look like a bad ass gimp.
