Airport fun
We waited at the Portland airport for about 3 1/2 hours Thursday while our plane was pushed back over and over again because of problems in Seattle, which you can drive to in about 3 hours. After we finally got on the plane at around 9:30pm we are loaded onto a tiny commuter jet with one bathroom in the back. Before the plane even takes off there is a kid a couple of rows in front of us who starts puking into this sick bag. People start hand over their sick bags and trying to help him out.
Once we are in the air, I had the unfortunate experience of using our tiny bathroom at the back of the plane. What I didn’t notice in the darkened cabin was that the door was quite small. So after smashing the top of my head and using the bathroom I head back to my seat to listen to more puking.
As we are about to land in SFO a man comes running from the front of the plane to use the bathroom (Something you cannot do on an airplane). He of course is drunk and complaining that he has been waiting to use the bathroom for a half an hour. Once we land we are stuck at the gate while the crew gets the police and the TSA out to our plane to take the nice man into custody. He will probable spend a year in federal prison for that little episode.
In the taxi on the way home from the airport, our taxi drive goes on to explain that in 1987 he got into a fight on a plane to Tokyo and ended up spending four days in jail and then serving 6 months in federal prison. This was before 9/11/2001. What do you think they will do to the guy on our plane? Can you say waterboarding? That will teach you to use Alaska Airlines!!!
No commentsPowells Technical Books
We drove around Portland some more today after a nice breakfast at Biscuits on NE Sandy and 52nd. We went downtown and look in some art galleries and then dropped by Powell’s Technical Books, which has some really cool stuff. Alanna had to get some stuff, and if we didn’t need to fly back on a plane I think we would have gotten a lot more books.
We drove out west on 26 to see what the surrounding area was like. We got about 30 miles outside Portland to the west when it started to go into mountains and we decided that going into the Oregon mountains, with snow on the ground in our little Ford Focus rental would not be the wisest of choices.
We fly back tomorrow. It’s been fun

We had a great Christmas day opening presents and laughing and cooking. We got so much booty that it will be hard to get it all on the plane when we leave. We even got some snow falling around Portland for a little while. mmm snow for Christmas.

Alanna and I are up in Portland for the holidays. It’s cold and rainy and well… Portland. We had some plane delays so we didn’t make it here until about 10pm last night. Our crappy rental car from Thrifty is making us realize what are great car we have and what spoiled brats we are. We are making the best of it.
We drove around a while this afternoon before walking around the Pearl district and visiting Powells Books. We had an execellent lunch at Henry’s Tavern and then headed back to where we are staying to take a little nap before starting some dinner and other stuff tonight.

I am trying to get all my xmas shopping and gift giving up to date. This year is great because we are doing secret santa in my family. Usually my xmas involves sending lots of packages out to my family on the east coast. As always happens you end of getting presents for lots of different people anyway.

“I touched the delta tower.”
Captain John J. Cota of the Cosco Busan after striking the Bay Bridge.
Maybe this could become a euphemism for doing something colossally stupid.

Everybody should have a super cool sister who can speak French to help you out once in a while.
No commentsBack from the dead
I spent a couple of miserable days sick this week. No sleep was had. Being super sick is kinda like being in a cocoon. You create this small little world for yourself between the bed, the couch and the bathroom. Once your over the sickness part it feels like you just transformed or shed skin or something. The air is colder, things are brighter and taste different.
Native Instruments Kontact and Leopard
I finally found a glitch in my studio system since upgrading. My Native Instruments Kontact install, which I think is kinda old, is totally hosed. The current version that I have will not only “not work” it is the only thing that I have found that totally kills Leopard.
Upon launching the APP (It will simple not work as a plugin) it will seem to work normally, but if you try to quit the application it will simple not quit. You cannot “Quit” it, you cannot “Force Quit” it. In fact you cannot even shut down Leopard. The only way to get the application closed and thus regain your computer is to “Reset” (Hold down the power button) your computer.
I’d call that a problem. Lucky for me that Logic Studio comes with a built in sampler that I can use until I figure out what is up with my version of NI Kontact.
No commentsWedding bed
Alanna and I have decided that we are going to get a new bed for our wedding. We have such a small apartment and we already have so much stuff that we thought it would be better to get one nice big present that we need for our wedding rather than lots of little stuff that we probable don’t have room for. We have setup a registry at McRoskey, which is a great bed maker in the city. They are great folks.
You can check out our registry page on our wedding blog.
